Papers of Dabney family members and of other individuals. Copies of correspondence of John Bass Dabney, first U.S. consul for the Azores (1807-26), relate to the attack of a British squadron on the American privateer, General Armstrong, in Fayal Harbor, the Azores (1814). Correspondence (1856) of Charles W. Dabney, consul for the Azores (1826-69), concerns the wreck and salvage off Fayal of the ship Ravenswood of New York. A letterbook (1831-32) of merchant Osgood Carney contains copies of letters and invoices of ships' cargoes from Havana and St. Petersburg (Russia) including sugar, coffee, fish, candles, iron, and hemp, for Boston, Mass. (Cont) Also, diary (1846-50) of Eliza Bellows, wife of Unitarian clergyman Henry W. Bellows; diaries (1842, 1853-64) of Persis S.A. Black, all detailing family life in Paris Hill, Me.; diaries (1884-85, 1889-90, 1900) of author Roxana L. Dabney, including travel in Russia and England, description of life in the Azores, and life in California (1900); and diary (1880-81) of Rose D. Forbes kept at Fayal.
